| Treasurer's Report: The balance is $1878.97. By unanimous decision, the chapter will donate $400 for 4 Art in the Schools grants and $100 to Pacesetters. |
| Empty Bowls: You may donate bowls to Lifeworks in Smithville (Healing Stones Sanctuary) or Nashville at any time. They donate $5 to TACA each time they receive a bowl from a TACA member. |
| TACA Board Meeting Report: Alice has retired and a new interim director has been appointed. The Annual Board Retreat, February 9-11, 2007, will be a time for strategic planning for TACA. Please let the office know by January 1st, if you would like to attend. Dues will go up for 2007 to cover increasing expenses, so please renew your membership. The TACA Spring Fair chapter group booth committee should be formed at the next meeting. Plan on attending the meeting if you are interested because a minimum number of participants is required. |
| New Highland Rim Web Page!!! We approved moving our web page to another host that is a little more expensive, but much more reliable and spacious. So, Andrzej completely redid our web page with lots of pictures and member galleries linked to individual web pages. Please take a look at <www.finecrafts.org> Andrzej will make Highland Rim members a free web page or update a HR member web page. Just send him (agutek@tntech.edu) negatives, slides, photos, and text. Digital images are best, but he can scan others. |

| New Highland Rim Workshop Scholarship: Thanks to the generous gift from Unity Church of the Cumberlands in Cookeville, the Highland Rim Chapter of TACA has a $200 workshop scholarship for a TACA member. To apply for the scholarship: Please send a description of the workshop (including place, date, cost, and instructor); A statement of how this benefits your career; After the workshop, please provide a report about the experience (a written report or orally at a Highland Rim meeting). Include your contact information and send your application to Jeanne Brady, 1560 Craft Center Drive, Smithville, TN 37166. Jeanne, Claudia, and Adele will review the applications. Deadline: February 28, 2007. Notification: March 21st. |

Highland Rim People in the NEWS: Corliss Acosta has a new cyberstore of her designs at <http://www.cafepress.com/corlissbydesign> Jeanne Brady will have a solo exhibition at the Appalachian Center for Craft, January 5 - February 16, 2007, with new exploratory work mostly of hand woven work based on nature. Merrit Ireland gave a presentation to the Tennessee Arts Education Association at their Annual Conference at Arrowmont about Pacesetter's Painting the Tale on November 9th. Nan Jacobson was there as well giving a workshop on clay sculpture heads. In November, Claudia Lee began an experimental apprenticeship program at Liberty Paper Mill. Nashville letterpress artist, Susan Hulme, will work in the studio for at least a year. They will develop a program based on papermaking and books. Claudia expects there will be lots to work out before she has something in place that can be offered on a regular basis. The program will be flexible to fit the interests of the participants. So far it's been very exciting! Vern Bonham has an article in the November 2006 issues of Woodcraft Magazine. Carol Ventura will discuss tapestry crochet design on the PBS WCTE TV show, Creative Living with Sheryl Borden, on Sunday, December 24th, at 2:30. She will teach 2 tapestry crochet workshops at the TNNA Conference in San Diego in early January and will lecture about Supplementary Weft in Guatemala and lead a brocade workshop for the Nashville Handweavers Guild on January 20th. Kim Winkle has work in Weather or Not at Coady Contemporary Gallery in Santa Fe, NM, November 17th - January 1st. She's a finalist for a NICHE award in the clocks category and had two pieces juried into the 28th Annual National Contemporary Crafts Exhibition at Mesa Arts Center in Mesa, AZ, January - March 2007. |
